Important Facts To Know Before Buying A New Harrow!!
A comparison done by an independent testing laboratory of components of “ours” vs “theirs”.
HARROW PIPE
“Ours” – 1.66” o.d. x 0.105 wall High Carbon steel tubing with .30 carbon content, 71,900 psi yield strength and 86,400 psi tensile strength.
“Theirs” – 1.66” o.d. x 0.105 wall tubing with .12 carbon content, 50,330 psi yield strength & 61,880 psi tensile strength.
Test conducted according to ASTM: A370
HARROW TEETH
“Ours” – 1055 Carbon Steel w/ carbon content of 0.60 (We’ve since upgraded again to C-1060 Carbon Steel)
We then hammer-forge the point, compressing the carbon, which gives our tooth superior hardness.
“Theirs” – 1040 Carbon Steel w/ carbon content of 0.37-0.44
The point is then pulled out, softening the interior of the tooth.
Test conducted according to ASTM: E350
TOOTH WEAR TEST CONDUCTED BY PEPIN IN THE WINTER OF 1990:
